Introduction

Positive symptoms are pathological additions beyond normal functioning—hallucinations, delusions, disorganised speech/thinking, bizarre behaviour, and incongruent affect. About 70% of schizophrenia cases feature hallucinations; delusions often phase in/out but feel intensely real. These contrast with Type-II (negative symptoms like withdrawal).

Positive Symptoms

1. Hallucinations

  • Hallucinations are false perceptions that occur without any real stimulus.
  • Common types include auditory (hearing voices), visual (seeing things), tactile (feeling touch), olfactory (smelling odours), and gustatory (tasting without food).
  • These experiences have no basis in reality and occur in about 70% of schizophrenia cases.

2. Delusions
