Introduction

Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of life and medicine, classifies personality based on a person’s physical and mental constitution. Charaka and Sushruta, two foundational Ayurvedic scholars, categorised personalities according to mental qualities called Trigunas and the balance of bodily energies (Dashas). These classifications help understand individual behaviour and guide personalised health practices.

CISCE: Class 12

  • Dashas: The three fundamental bodily energies—Vata (movement), Pitta (transformation), and Kapha (structure).
  • Dhatus: Seven types of body tissues fundamental to Ayurveda.
  • Malas: Three waste products in the body.
  • Triguna: Three gunas, or qualities of the mind—Sattva (purity and wisdom), Rajas (passion and activity), and Tamas (inertia and darkness).
  • Prakruti: The unique constitution of an individual, shaped by the relative dominance of Dashas and Gunas.
