Introduction

"Imagine you're creating a secret code for your diary using digits 5, 2, 8, 1. What's the biggest number you can make? What's the smallest? Learning to form numbers strategically helps in creating passwords, understanding place values, and solving puzzles in daily life!"

CISCE: Class 6

When 0 is included

Special Rule:
Zero cannot be the first digit for the smallest number.

For Smallest Number:

  1. Arrange digits in ascending order.
  2. If zero is first, swap it with the next smallest non-zero digit.
  3. Place zero in the second position.
  4. Then the rest in order from smallest to biggest: 5, 7, 8, 9.

For Greatest Number:

  1. Arrange digits in descending order.
  2. Zero naturally goes to the end.

Example:
Given digits: 2, 0, 7, 8, 9

  • Smallest: 0, 2, 7, 8, 9 → swap 0 and 2 → 205789
  • Greatest: 9, 8, 7, 2, 0 → 987520

Quick Check:
Digits: 3, 0, 7, 1

  • Smallest: 1037
  • Greatest: 7310
CISCE: Class 6
