Maharashtra State Board: Class 6
Introduction
Perpendicular Lines: Two lines are considered perpendicular to each other when they form an angle of 90°.
The concept of perpendicularity is built upon the Right Angle.
A Right Angle is an angle with an exact measure of 90° (ninety degrees).
- Geometric Representation: A right angle is represented in diagrams by a small square (□) placed at the vertex (the point where the two rays or lines meet).
CISCE: Class 6
Definition: Perpendicular Lines
When two lines intersect, and the angle between them is a right angle, then the lines are said to be perpendicular.
In mathematics, the relationship of perpendicularity is denoted by the symbol ⊥.
If Line A and Line B are perpendicular, the relationship is written as AB ⊥ PQ.

CISCE: Class 6
Real-Life Applicatons
-
Notebook Corner: Vertical and horizontal edges meet at 90°.
-
Wooden Planks: Adjacent sides form right angles in a frame.
-
Room Walls: Each wall is perpendicular to the floor.
CISCE: Class 6
Key Points Summary
| Term | Definition | Notation/Symbol | Condition |
| Right Angle | An angle measuring exactly 90°. | □ | 90° |
| Perpendicularity | The relationship between lines that meet at 90°. | ⊥ | Intersection creates a Right Angle |
