Introduction

Triangles are one of the most fundamental shapes in geometry.

Understanding their types is important because triangles form the building blocks of many structures in mathematics, art, architecture, and nature.

Knowing how to classify triangles helps us solve problems in geometry, use measurement tools accurately, and recognize patterns in the world around us.

Classification of Triangles based on Angles

Types of Triangles Diagram Definition Properties
Acute Angled Triangle A triangle with all three angles less than 90°

- All angles are acute

- Each angle is < 90°

Right-Angled Triangle A triangle with one angle equal to 90°

- Has one right angle (90°)

- The other two are acute

-The side opposite the right angle is called the hypotenuse.

-The hypotenuse is the longest side of a right triangle.

Obtuse Angled Triangle

A triangle with one angle greater than 90°

- Has one obtuse angle

- The other two are acute

CISCE: Class 6

Key Points Summary

  • A triangle’s type depends on the measures of its angles.

  • Every triangle has three sides and the sum of its angles is always 180.

  • Acute triangle: all angles < 90°.

  • Right triangle: one angle = 90°.

  • Obtuse triangle: one angle > 90°.

  • Hypotenuse is the longest side in a right triangle.
