Definition: Intersecting Lines

When two or more lines meet at a common point, they are known as intersecting lines.

Maharashtra State Board: Class 6

Properties of a Intersecting Lines

  1. Intersecting lines meet at a single point; they cannot meet at more than one point.

  2. Intersecting lines meet each other at any angle that is greater than 0° and less than 180°.
    (0° < Angle < 180°).

  3. When two lines intersect each other, they form a pair of vertical angles that share a common vertex or the point of intersection and are faced opposite to each other. The vertical angles are always equal to each other.

  4. The definitions of parallel lines and intersecting lines are applicable only when the lines are in the same plane, i.e., when the lines are coplanar.
CISCE: Class 6

Key Points Summary

  • Intersecting lines meet at one point with an angle > 0° and < 180°.

  • Two lines in a plane are either parallel (never meet) or intersecting (meet once).

  • Always verify lines are coplanar before classification.
