  • Definition: Flemming Right Hand Rule
Maharashtra State Board: Class 10

Introduction:

Fleming’s Right-Hand Rule states that if the thumb, index finger, and middle finger of the right hand are stretched perpendicular to each other:

  • Thumb → Direction of the motion of the conductor
  • Index Finger → Direction of the magnetic field (N to S)
  • Middle Finger → Direction of the induced current

Fleming’s right-hand rule

Maharashtra State Board: Class 10

Application:

  1. It is used in electric generators to determine the direction of induced current.
  2. Helps in power generation in hydroelectric, thermal, and wind power plants.
  3. Applied in dynamos to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.
  4. It is used in alternators in vehicles to charge batteries.
  5. Helps in eddy current braking systems in trains and roller coasters.
  6. Applied in magneto ignition systems in internal combustion engines.
  7. It is used in induction cooktops to generate heat through electromagnetic induction.
  8. Helps in wireless charging systems for mobile devices.

Definition: Fleming’s Right Hand Rule

If the thumb, index finger, and middle finger of the right hand are stretched perpendicular to each other, then:

  • The thumb indicates the direction of motion of the conductor,
  • The index finger shows the direction of the magnetic field,
  • The middle finger gives the direction of the induced current.
