Gametogenesis

Gametogenesis is the process of formation of haploid gametes from undifferentiated, diploid germ cells (primordial germ cells) present in the gonads, for the purpose of sexual reproduction. The primary sex organs - the testes in males and the ovaries in females - produce gametes (sperms and ova respectively) by this process.

Gametogenesis is of two types:

Both processes share the same three fundamental phases: Multiplication Phase → Growth Phase → Maturation Phase.
