# Triangles as Parts of Rectangles and square:

• The rectangle can be considered as a combination of two congruent triangles.

• Sum of the areas of the two triangles is the same as the area of the rectangle. Both the triangles are equal in area.

The area of each triangle = 1/2 (Area of the rectangle)

= 1/2 × (l × b)

= 1/2 (8 × 5)

= 40/2

= 20 cm2

Similarly,

• The square can be considered as a combination of four congruent triangles.

• Sum of the areas of the four triangles is the same as the area of the square. All the triangles are equal in area.

The area of each triangle = 1/4(Area of the square)

= 1/4(side)2

= 1/4(5)2 cm2

= 6.25 cm2
