Symptoms of Alcohol Intoxication

A state where a person experiences negative behavioural or psychological changes during or shortly after consuming alcohol.

Changes Include: Inappropriate aggressive or sexual behaviour, extreme mood swings, and impaired judgement or social functioning.

• Slurred speech and rapid eye movements.
• Poor physical coordination and the inability to walk in a straight line.
• Impaired attention and memory.
• In severe cases, it can lead to a state of stupor or a coma.

1. Physical Distress: Experiencing frequent nausea, headaches, fatigue, muscle cramps, or an irregular heartbeat after drinking.
2. Signs of Dependency: Needing a drink first thing in the morning, or consuming five or more drinks in a single day.
3. Behavioural Red Flags: Denying there is a drinking problem, forgetting events that happened while drunk (blackouts), or doing things while drinking that cause later regret.
4. Psychological Issues: Experiencing dramatic mood swings, sleep disturbances, depression, or paranoia.
5. Loss of Control: Attempting to control the addiction by switching alcohol brands or temporarily stopping drinking ("going on the waggon").
