The human brain is the largest in proportion to body size among all animals and is protected inside the cranium.
The adult brain weighs about 1.35 kg, makes up about 2% of body weight, and is 80% water.
The brain uses more than 25% of the total oxygen taken into the body.
It is covered by three protective membranes called meninges: dura mater, arachnoid, and pia mater.
The space between the meninges contains cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which cushions the brain and also fills the brain’s ventricles and the spinal cord canal.
