Introduction

Babyhood begins from the third week after birth and continues until two years of age. This period is known as the age of helplessness because babies rely on others for everything.

CISCE: Class 12

Main Features of Babyhood

1. Total Dependence

  • Babies need help for feeding, sleeping, cleaning, bathing, urination, and dressing up.
  • Caregivers must look after babies so they feel safe and comfortable.

2. Toilet Training

  • During babyhood, children begin learning toilet habits.
  • Parents help babies understand when and how to use the toilet.

3. Learning Independence

  • By the end of two years, children start using their muscles and learn to eat, drink, walk, dress, and play on their own.
  • Many children like doing these things themselves and ask their parents to let them try.
