Maharashtra State Board: Class 5
Introduction
‘Divisible' means when you divide one number by another, the remainder should be zero. Divisibility tests are useful in the prime factorisation of a number.
To check whether a number is divisible without performing long division, we use divisibility rules.
These rules allow us to analyse, examine, and manipulate the digits of a number using basic arithmetic operations to check for divisibility.
CISCE: Class 6
Divisibility Rules
| Divisibility By | Rule |
|---|---|
| 2 | A number is divisible by 2 if its last digit is 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8. |
| 3 | A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 3. |
| 4 | A number is divisible by 4 if the last two digits are divisible by 4. |
| 5 | A number is divisible by 5 if its last digit is 0 or 5. |
| 6 | A number is divisible by 6 if it is divisible by both 2 and 3. |
| 8 | A number is divisible by 8 if the last three digits form a number divisible by 8. |
| 9 | A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 9. |
| 10 | A number is divisible by 10 if its last digit is 0. |
