Introduction

Have you ever opened a door or turned a clock hand? The space created by that movement is called an Angle!

Think of it this way: an angle is just a way to measure how much turning or rotation happens when two lines meet.

Parts of an Angle

Angle: An angle consists of two rays that originate from a single initial point.  An angle is represented by the symbol ∠.

Arms of an Angle: The two rays forming the angle are called the arms or sides of the angle.

Vertex: The vertex of the angle is the common initial point of two rays.

Naming and Representation of an Angle

Naming Method Example
Using Three Letters Angle ABC or Angle CBA
Using the Symbol ∠ABC or ∠CBA
Using the Vertex Letter ∠B

Real-Life Examples

  • Spectacles: The hinge where the frame arms meet forms an angle you can open or close.
