Concept of Reflection Symmetry

Reflectional Symmetry: Reflectional symmetry is when a shape can be divided into two equal parts that are mirror images of each other along a line called the axis of symmetry.

  • If you fold a shape along a line and both halves match exactly, the shape has reflectional symmetry.
  • A shape has reflection symmetry if it has a line of symmetry.
  • A line of symmetry divides a figure into two halves.
  • The folding line is called the axis of symmetry.
  • Example: Letters like A, H, and M have reflectional symmetry.
  • Some shapes can have more than one axis of symmetry.
