Real-Life Example

Situation:
A small restaurant needs groceries but doesn’t have enough cash. The grocery store owner agrees to give groceries worth ₹10,000 on credit, and the restaurant promises to pay the amount next month.

Now, suppose:
After a month, the restaurant faces financial problems and closes down. The owner is unable to pay the ₹10,000 to the grocery store, even after multiple reminders.

Here:

  • The restaurant was the debtor of the grocery store.

  • The grocery store was the creditor of the restaurant.

  • The ₹10,000, which cannot be recovered from the restaurant, is treated as bad debts in the grocery store’s accounts.
