Dr. Vikram Sarabhai is regarded as the father of India’s space program. He founded the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) and led the formation of the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) in 1962.

India has made impressive progress in space science, especially in developing launch vehicles. It has built different types of launchers capable of placing satellites weighing up to 2500 kg into various orbits. Two major launch vehicles are PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) and GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle).
