Give the law of combination of resistances in series.

Solution

In a series combination, the same current flows through each resistor. Let the supplied voltage, V be divided as V1V2 and V3 in resistors R1R2 and R3, respectively.
V = V1 + V2 V3
IR = IR1 + IR2 + IR3
IR = I(R1 + R2 + R3)
R = R1 + R2 + R3
Thus, in the case of a series combination, the total resistance, is the sum of the individual resistance R1R2 and R3.
