A series LCR circuit consists of a resistor (R), an inductor (L), and a capacitor (C) connected in series to an AC voltage source.

The AC source applies a sinusoidally varying voltage:

Applying Kirchhoff's Voltage Law around the loop:

L\[\frac {di}{dt}\] + iR + \[\frac {q}{C}\] = vm sin ⁡ωt
