Question
Write down the significance of the following in the context of ‘On to the Summit’:
Red Scarf
Advertisements
Solution
The red scarf was a gift to Tenzing Norgay from his good friend Lambert, the leader of the Swiss Expedition of 1952. When Tenzing reached the summit of Mount Everest, he placed the red scarf there as a tribute to his friend and as a symbol of their companionship and shared dreams of conquering the mountain.
The scarf reminded Tenzing of their earlier expedition, filled him with energy, hope, and fond memories, and symbolized friendship, gratitude, and the spirit of mountaineering.
