She has also become world’s youngest tribal to achieve the feat. It was joy and thrill beyond words for the youngest mountaineer, who had already conquered Mt. Everest (Asia), Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mt. Elbrus (Europe) before conquering Mt. Aconcagua, the highest mountain peak in the southern and western hemisphere on Friday. “Now, I’m setting my eyes on scaling the remaining top three peaks in the world: Mt. Denali (North America), Mt. Vinson Massif (Antarctica) and Mt. Kosciuszko (Australia),” said Poorna from the summit of Mt. Aconcagua, Argentina adding that her goal is to make India proud by becoming the youngest tribal woman in the world to scale seven tallest mountain peaks across all seven continents. Describing her journey to the highest mountain peak, she said, “I cannot even describe how difficult the climb was, it was much difficult than Mt. Everest, but I resolved to go ahead with the mission,” she said adding that SWAROES ten commandments taught her not to give up, no matter what the circumstances are. Poorna is currently pursuing her undergraduate studies at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for Women in Kamareddy. Noted Bollywood film director and producer Rahul Bose produced a film ‘Poorna, Courage Has No Limit’ based on the real-life story of Poorna. |

Among the many hill forts in Maharashtra, Lohagadh is a marvelous piece of architecture. Located 52 km northwest of Pune, the fort sits at an elevation of 1,033 m above sea level. In 1648 CE, the fort was captured by Shivaji, which was then captured by the Mughals in 1665 CE. In 1670 CE, Shivaji Maharaj captured the fort again and he used it to store his treasury looted from Surat. Lohagadh fort is also one of the scenic treks in Pune that can be done in a day. Lohagad is part of the Western Ghats. The range divides the basins of the Indrayani river and Pavana lake. Lohagad overlooks the Pavana reservoir, located to the south of the mountain. The hill extends to the northwest to a fortified spur, called Vinchukada (Scorpion’s tail) because of its resembling shape. The four large gates of Lohagad are still in good condition and reasonably intact. |
