Question
Why is the Human Genome project called a mega project?

Solution
The Human Genome Project is a large-scale project that identifies all the genes present in the human genome. There are 3 × 109 base pairs in the human genome and it costs three US dollars to identify each base. Thus, the entire project will cost about 9 billion dollars. The collection of the known sequences will necessitate approximately 3300 books, each with 1000 pages and 10000 words. We estimate that this project will take 13 years to complete.
If thousands of scientists from many countries work on it together, then its first process will take 10 years to complete. High-quality statistical tools will be required for the collection, completion, and analysis of such a large amount of data. Therefore, due to its large scale, this project is called a mega project.
