Topics

CBSE: Class 12

Marginal propensity to consume

\[MPC=\frac{\Delta C}{\Delta Y}\]
This means MPC = change in consumption ÷ change in income.

CBSE: Class 12

Marginal propensity to save

\[MPS=\frac{\Delta S}{\Delta Y}\]

  • Since any extra income is either consumed or saved,

    MPC + MPS = 1
  • If MPC is denoted by cc, MPS is often denoted by ss, and

    s = 1 − c
CBSE: Class 12

Average propensity to consume

\[APC=\frac{C}{Y}\]
This means APC = consumption ÷ income.

CBSE: Class 12

Average propensity to save

\[APS=\frac{S}{Y}\]

  • Because total income is either consumed or saved,

    APC + APS = 1
