उत्तर

When a ray of ordinary light is passed through a triangular glass prism, the light splits into a spectrum of seven colours. This splitting of light into its constituent colours is called dispersion of light. The role of the prism is to separate the seven colours of the white light.

A student traces the path of a ray of light through a triangular glass prism for different values of angle of incidence. On analyzing the ray diagrams, which one of the following conclusions is he likely to draw?

(A) The emergent ray is parallel to the incident ray.

(B) The emergent ray bends at an angle to the direction of the incident ray.

(C) The emergent ray and the refracted ray are at right angles to each other.

(D) The emergent ray is perpendicular to the incident ray.

After tracing the path of a ray of light through a glass prism a student marked the angle of incidence (∠i), angle of refraction (∠r) angle of emergence (∠e) and the angle of deviation (∠D) as shown in the diagram. The correctly marked angles are :

(A) ∠i and ∠r

(B) ∠i and ∠e

(C) ∠i, ∠e and ∠D

(D) ∠i, ∠r and ∠e

(C) p, y, z

(D) p, z, y

Why do we see a rainbow in the sky only after rainfall?

Assertion: We can see the rainbow in the sky when the rain starts falling after a spell of bright sunlight.
Reason: The rainbow is formed due to the dispersion of light.
