Solution

  1. Promotions: Vacancies at higher levels may be filled up by promoting persons working at lower levels. For example, when the present sales manager of a company retires, one of the branch managers may be promoted as the new sales manager. Promotion involves shifting an employee to a higher post with a higher status and salary.
  2. Transfers: Transfer means shifting an employee from one factory, branch or office to fill a vacancy in another factory, branch or office of the company. For example, a shortage of salespersons in one branch may be met by transferring salespersons from another branch. Transfer involves shifting an employee to a similar job without change in status and salary.
  3. Ex-Employees: Sometimes, individuals who were previously employed by the company may be rehired. These individuals are known as ex-employees. They might return voluntarily, or the company may approach them and offer re-employment.
  4. Recommendations by Employees: Candidates recommended by current employees, their friends, or relatives often serve as a reliable source of recruitment. Such applicants are likely to be trustworthy, as some background information about them is already known. This acts as a form of initial screening, since existing employees are familiar with both the organization’s needs and the candidates’ capabilities, aiming to maintain satisfaction on both sides. In many family-run businesses, preference is given to employee-referred candidates, as employees act as guarantors for them. Additionally, some companies have agreements with trade unions to prioritise the hiring of relatives and friends of current or retired employees, provided they meet the required qualifications and experience. In factories especially, trade unions play a major role in recruiting workers.
