Let, y = cos (a cos x + b sin x)
On differentiating with respect to x,
`dy/dx` = −sin (a cos x + b sin x) [a (−sin x) + b cos x]
= −sin (a cos x + b sin x) [−a sin x + b cos x]
= (a sin x − b cos x) sin (a cos x + b sin x)
