Solution

An auto rickshaw takes 3 hours to cover a distance of 36 km. If its speed is increased by 4 km/h, the time taken by it to cover the same distance is 2 h 15 min.

Explanation:

An auto rickshaw takes 3 h to cover a distance of 36 km.

Then, its speed = `36/3` = 12 km/h  ...`[∵ "Speed" = "Distance"/"Time"]`

If its speed = 12 + 4 = 16 km/h

Now, timetaken by auto rickshaw to cover 36 km in `36/16` h

= `(36 xx 60)/16`

= 135 min

= 2 × 60 + 15

= 2 h 15 min  ...[∵ 1 h = 60 min]
