उत्तर

  1. The air enclosed within the inflated balloon experiences elevated pressure.
  2. When an inflated balloon is abruptly popped, the air contained within moves from the elevated pressure inside to the lower-pressure external environment.
  3. In accordance with the Joule-Thomson effect principle, as a gas at high pressure transitions to an area of lower pressure, it undergoes cooling.
  4. Consequently, the air emerging from the balloon is slightly chilled.

Explain why The climate of a harbour town is more temperate than that of a town in a desert at the same latitude.

A thermodynamic system is taken from an original state to an intermediate state by the linear process shown in Figure

Its volume is then reduced to the original value from E to F by an isobaric process. Calculate the total work done by the gas from D to E to F

Explain the thermodynamics of the isochoric process.

The V-T diagram of an ideal gas which goes through a reversible cycle A→B→C→D is shown below. (Processes D→A and B→C are adiabatic)

The corresponding PV diagram for the process is (all figures are schematic)

Explain in detail the isochoric process.

What are the limitations of the first law of thermodynamics?

Consider the following cyclic process consist of isotherm, isochoric and isobar which is given in the figure.

Draw the same cyclic process qualitatively in the V-T diagram where T is taken along the x-direction and V is taken along the y-direction. Analyze the nature of heat exchange in each process.

An ideal gas is expanded isothermally from volume V1 to volume V2 and then compressed adiabatically to original volume V1. If the initial pressure is P1, the final pressure is P3 and net work done is W, then ____________.

One mole of an ideal gas with `gamma` = 1.4 is adiabatically compressed so that its temperature rises from 27° C to 47° C. The change in the internal energy of the gas is (R = 8.3 J/mol.K) ____________.

Two identical samples of a gas are allowed to expand (i) isothermally (ii) adiabatically. Work done is ____________.

An ideal gas A and a real gas B have their volumes increased from V to 2V under isothermal conditions. The increase in internal energy ____________.

Assertion: Equal volumes of monatomic and polyatomic gases are adiabatically compressed separately to equal compression ratio `("P"_2/"P"_1)`. Then monatomic gas will have greater final volume.

Reason: Among ideal gases, molecules of a monatomic gas have the smallest number of degrees of freedom.

An ideal gas is compressed to half its initial volume by means of several processes. Which of the process results in the maximum work done on the gas?

We consider a thermodynamic system. If `Delta"U"` represents the increase in its internal energy and W the work done by the system, which of the following statements is true?

The work done on the system in changing the state of a gas adiabatically from equilibrium state A to equilibrium state B is 22.4 J.
