Adding Text with Effects

Step 1: Create a new image with dimensions 256×128 pixels to start your design.

Step 2: Set the background colour to black by adjusting the RGB values to (0, 0, 0).

Step 3: Use the bucket fill tool to fill the entire canvas with the selected black colour.

Step 4: Select the text tool from the toolbox to add text to the image.

Step 5: Change the foreground colour to white by setting the RGB values to (255, 255, 255) for clear visibility on the black background.

Step 6: Type the text “A VILLAGE MELA” onto the canvas; this creates a new text layer above the background.

Step 7: Right-click on the canvas and choose the New option to add another layer named "Visible" in the layer palette.

Step 8: Apply Gaussian Blur to the text by going to Filter → Blur → Gaussian Blur to soften its appearance.

Step 9: Add a plasma effect by selecting Filter → Render → Clouds → Plasma to create a vibrant background texture.

Step 10: Apply a bump map to the plasma layer using Filter → Map → Bump Map to generate a fake 3D surface effect.

Step 11: Add a white layer mask to the plasma layer by choosing Layer → Mask → Add Layer Mask (or right-click and select it).

Step 12: Copy the "Visible" layer and paste it into the mask of the plasma layer to isolate the bump-mapped text.

Step 13: Paste the copied layer using Edit → Paste, which creates a floating selection on the image.

Step 14: Anchor the floating selection into the layer mask by selecting Layer → Anchor Layer.

  • Save the final image using File → Save As and name it (e.g., Myfair1.xcf). The image is saved in XCF format by default.
  • Close the file once done by clicking File → Close View or File → Close All.
