Solution

  1. Folk painting styles generally depict the lifestyle, culture, traditions, etc., of a particular place or region. From Madhubani to Kalamkari, folk painting styles have been practised across different parts of India. These paintings are unique and culturally distinct from one another.
  2. These are generally made of soil, mud, leaves, and charcoal on a piece of cloth, canvas or even paper. The colourful paint is made out of natural dyes.
  3. Madhubani from Bihar, Phad from Rajasthan, Warli paintings by the Warli tribes from the Western Ghats, Gond paintings by the Gondi tribes in Madhya Pradesh, Kalamkari from Andhra Pradesh, and the famous Tanjore paintings from Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu are some classic examples of the folk style of painting.
  4. Rock paintings generally have human and animal figures. The transition from the Stone Age to the advent of agriculture is clearly portrayed by the figures and colours used.
  5. Even the culture of decorating house walls and courtyards with paintings depicting various figures aided the development of folk painting.
