Solution

  1. U.S. Secretary of State George C. Marshall launched the massive economic aid program known as the Marshall Plan in 1947.
  2. Its goal was to help Western European countries rebuild their businesses after World War II.
  3. It was meant to help the economy get better, keep things stable in politics, and stop the spread of communism by making democratic governments stronger.
  4. The Soviet Union saw it as an American plan to gain power in Europe, so they turned it down, which also stopped other Eastern Bloc countries from joining.
  5. This made the gap between East and West even bigger, which made the Cold War even worse.
