Solution

The intensity of sound is directly proportional to the square of the amplitude of vibration. If the amplitude is increased, the sound becomes more intense (louder).

Mathematically: I ∝ A2 (where I is intensity and A is amplitude).

In addition to amplitude, other factors that affect the perceived loudness of sound include:

  • Distance from the Source: The intensity of sound decreases as you move further away from the source of the sound.
  • Surface Area: A larger vibrating surface area generally produces a sound with greater intensity.
