Madhulika thought of a number, doubled it and added 20 to it. On dividing the resulting number by 25, she gets 4. What is the number?

Solution
Let the number be x.
According to the question,
`(2x + 20)/25 = 4`
⇒ 2x + 20 = 25 × 4
⇒ 2x + 20 = 100
⇒ 2x = 100 – 20
⇒ 2x = 80
⇒ x = `80/2`
∴ x = 40
Hence, the required number is 40.
