उत्तर

The electric field in the region between the plates depends on the change given to the conducting plates,

For capacitor 'A' of capacitance C, having voltage V, the charge on it is given by Q = CV.

On connecting this capacitor A with capacitor B changes get distributed.

Now, `q_1 + q_2 = Q`

`q_1 + q_2` = CV

`CV_1 + 2CV_1 = CV`

`V_1 = V/3`

∴ `q_1 = (CV)/3`

`q_2 = (2CV)/3`

∴ The ratio of final changes on A and B:

`q_1/q_2 = (CV"/"3)/(2CV"/"3) = 1/2`

Following operations can be performed on a capacitor:
X − connect the capacitor to a battery of emf ε.
Y − disconnect the battery.
Z − reconnect the battery with polarity reversed.
W − insert a dielectric slab in the capacitor.

If the plates of a parallel plate capacitor connected to a battery are moved close to each other, then:

  1. the charge stored in it. increases.
  2. the energy stored in it, decreases.
  3. its capacitance increases.
  4. the ratio of charge to its potential remains the same.
