Development of Scientific Perspective in Europe and Historiography: 

  • Europe had achieved considerable progress in the fields of Philosophy and Science till the 18th Century.  
  • By that time, academics had developed the belief that social and historical truths could be studied using scientific approaches. 
  • The objectivity of history and historiography is now a topic of intellectual discussion that is becoming more and more prominent. 
  • Before the 18th century philosophical discourses revolving around Divine phenomena was topic of interest all over European universities. 
  • In 1737 C.E. the Gottingen University was founded in Germany. This university for the first time had an independent department of history. Later, other German universities also became centers of historical studies.
