Solution
A Philosophical View of the World
The world is a mixture of suffering, change and possibility. A thoughtful person does not deny hardship but looks beyond it for meaning and hope. This idea is reflected in Emily Dickinson’s “Hope”. The poet imagines hope as a small bird living in the soul, singing through storms and asking for nothing in return. It suggests that inner strength can sustain us even in difficult times.
Thomas Hardy’s “The Darkling Thrush” presents a cold, lifeless winter scene at the end of the century. The speaker feels that the world has little reason for joy, yet an old thrush suddenly sings with great energy. Its song hints at a hope that the speaker cannot fully understand. The two poems remind us that appearances do not tell the whole story: despair may surround us, while hope quietly persists. A wise outlook accepts life’s pain while staying open to renewal, compassion and unexpected joy.
