Solution
Hope Helps Us Cope with Loss
Loss can leave us shocked, angry and uncertain about the future. Hope does not erase our pain; it gives us the strength to face it and gradually accept a changed life. In Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope”, hope is a tireless bird that sings within the soul, even during the fiercest storm. It comforts people without asking anything in return. In Thomas Hardy’s “The Darkling Thrush”, the speaker sees a bleak winter landscape, yet the thrush sings with unexpected joy. Its song suggests that life may still hold promise when all seems lost. Together, the poems show that hope helps us endure sorrow, find courage and begin again.
