Allergy refers to a wide range of undesirable reactions that the body experiences as a result of being oversensitive to chemicals known as “allergens”. The tissue cell’s release of histamine or similar chemicals is what causes allergic responses. Certain tissue cells called mast cells and blood basophil cells retain histamine in a bound condition.

Anaphylactic shock is an urgent emergency situation in which a patient experiences severe shock after receiving an injection of a foreign protein because of sensitization from a prior DDS. Antihistamines and anti-allergic medications are often used interchangeably.
