Mrs. White: John, do you see those faces in the fire? They look so dreadful. I can’t stop thinking about Morris’s warning.
Mr. White: I see them, Jenny or I think I do. Perhaps it is only the firelight and our fears. Still, I wish I had never made that wish.
Mrs. White: We must not use the paw again. Let us put it away where neither of us can reach it.
Mr. White: Yes. We should also tell Herbert to be careful on his way home and warn him not to joke about the paw near the machinery.
Mrs. White: And we must not make another wish, whatever happens. If anything strange occurs, we’ll face it together.
Mr. White: Agreed. I’ll lock the paw away, and we’ll keep the doors secure. Let us hope the warning was only a tale.
