Solution

A plant’s primary productivity is the amount of biomass or organic matter produced per unit area over a given time period during photosynthesis. It is expressed in terms of weight (g/m2/yr) or energy (kcal/m2/yr). It is classified into two types: gross primary productivity and net primary productivity. The rate at which organic matter is produced during photosynthesis is known as an ecosystem’s gross primary productivity. Net primary productivity (NPP) is calculated by subtracting respiration losses (R) from gross primary productivity.
