Solution

The Allies during the war were Britain, the USA and the USSR, which had several differences at the Yalta Conference in February 1945 about what would happen to Germany, as follows:

  1. Germany was required to pay the USSR a significant amount for war damages, and it was also agreed that imposing excessive reparations on Germany would harm its economy and lead to long-term unrest in Europe.
  2. They decided that Germany would be split into four occupation zones, but they didn’t agree on how these zones would be governed as a whole or how their economies would work together.
  3. They couldn’t agree on the future structure of Germany’s government. The Soviets wanted to ensure that the structure was pro-Soviet and controlled, which was in line with their larger goals in Eastern Europe. The Western Allies wanted a democracy framework.
  4. Early disagreements led to rising tensions and mistrust, which finally led to the start of the Cold War.
