The human genome project was initiated in 1990 under the International administration of the Human Genome Organization (HUGO).
This project was coordinated by the US Department of Energy and the National Institute of health. Additional contributors included universities across the United States and international partners in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, India and China.
The Human Genome Project was completed in 2003.
