Given: X = 5x2 + 7x + 8 and Y = 4x2 – 7x + 3
X + Y = 5x2 + 7x + 8 + (4x2 – 7x + 3)
= (5x2 + 4x2) + (7x – 7x) + (8 + 3)
= x2(5 + 4) + x(7 – 7) + (8 + 3)
= 9x2 + 11
Degree of the expression is 2.
