Solution

If p squares of each side 1 mm makes a square of side 1 cm, then p is equal to 100.

Explanation:

∵ Area of 1 square of side 1 mm = 1 × 1 mm2 = 1 mm2  ...[∵ Area of square = (side)2]

Area of square of side 1 cm = 1 × 1 cm2 = 1 cm2

According to the question,

Area of squares of side 1 mm = Area of square side 1 cm

⇒ p × 1 mm2 = 1 cm2

⇒ p mm2 = 1 cm2

⇒ p mm2 = (10 mm)2  ...[∵ 1 cm = 10 mm]

⇒ p mm2 = 100 mm2

So, p = 100
