How much electricity is required in coulomb for the oxidation of 1 mol of FeO to Fe2O3?

Solution

The electrode reaction for 1 mol of FeO is given as:

\[\ce{FeO -> 1/2 Fe2O3}\]

i.e., \[\ce{Fe^{2+} -> Fe^{3+} + e^-}\]

∴ Amount of electricity required = 1 F

= 96500 C
