Solution
The westerlies in the Southern Hemisphere blow with greater force than those in the Northern Hemisphere because there are no large landmasses to obstruct their flow in the Southern Hemisphere. This allows the winds to move more freely and gain strength. In some regions between 10°S and 60°S, these winds become extremely strong and are known as the Roaring Forties, Brave West Winds, and Furious Fifties. In contrast, the Northern Hemisphere has more landmasses that interrupt and weaken the westerlies.
