Question
Find the remainder of the following case when f(x) is divided by g(x).
f(x) = 4x2 − 5x + 1, g(x) = 2x − 1

Solution
Step 1: Convert g(x) to (x – a) form
2x − 1 = 0
x = `1/2`
Step 2: Calculate the remainder
f(x) = 4x2 − 5x + 1
f`(1/2) = 4(1/2)^2 - 5(1/2) + 1`
= `4(1/4) - 5/2 + 1`
= `1- 5/2 + 1`
= `2 - 5/2`
= `4/2 - 5/2`
= `-1/2`
