Solution

Given: Point (–8, –6).

Using the distance formula from the origin

`d = sqrt((x - 0)^2 + (y - 0)^2`

`d = sqrt((-8 - 0)^2 + (-6 - 0)^2`

= `sqrt[(-8)^2 + (-6)^2`

= `sqrt(64 + 36)`

= `sqrt(100)`

= 10

The distance of (–8, –6) from the origin is 10 units.
