Solution

  1. Israel benefited greatly; they refused a UN order to return the territory they took. Safety zones were established between Israel and the Arab states. However, Israel suddenly had a million more Arab refugees. Arab refugees lived in Gaza and West Bank camps.
  2. Their departure was a big loss for Arab states and Nasser. Like everything else, his honour was stolen. By this point, Nasser recognised that he needed international support to rescue Palestinians from Israel. It was apparent that Arabs continued to oppose Israel's existence and prepared for possible future conflict.
  3. After the Six-Day War, Moshe Dayan claimed he was waiting for King Hussein to call so they could negotiate a fresh deal and end the struggle between Israel and the Arab world. The Arabs fuelled their hatred of Israel. In Khartoum, Arabs engaged in discussions about the post-war events. The Arabs made what became known as the “Three No’s” in the Khartoum Resolution on 1 September 1967. That is No recognition of Israel, No Peace with Israel, No negotiations with Israel.
  4. After winning the war, Israel underestimated the long-term consequences of occupation. In retrospect, the Six-Day War was the last chance to improve religion, society, the economy, and diplomacy.

Notes

According to the textbook, the Six-Day War occurred in 1967, not 1976. The year mentioned in the exercise appears to be a printing error.
