Solution
Internet protocols are known as TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). These protocols are not owned by any single organization, and the technology is open and available to everyone.
The TCP/IP protocol uses three types of addresses for network addressing:
- Hardware or physical address is used at the data link and physical layers.
- Internet Protocol (IP) address provides logical identification of a node. This address is uniquely assigned by an administrator and is written in four-part dotted decimal notation, for example, 123.144.131.21.
- Logical node names are easier to remember than numerical IP addresses.
